WHO ARE WE?
We are a non-profit service club officially sanctioned by Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHiP), originally based in Lodi but have members spread throughout the Delta, Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto, Bay Area, and Sierra Foothills. Besides being big fans of Jimmy Buffett, his music, and the tropical laid-back lifestyle that his and other trop-rock musicians’ music invokes, PPOCD follows Jimmy’s lead in trying to leave the world a little better than we found it by volunteering and donating money to various local community service and charitable organizations.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Each year Parrot Head clubs worldwide contribute thousands of man-hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars to local, national, and international charities, community service causes, and environmental projects. And we have a great time doing it! In the past we have supported several charitable organizations
such as Sacramento’s Stanford Home for Children, KVIE Public TV, Eppie’s Great Race, the Girl Scouts, the Sacramento Zoo, and Cystic Fibrosis. In 2005, we raised several thousand dollars for disaster relief for Katrina victims along the Gulf Coast. Each year we decide which community and charitable groups we can best support and organize activities to raise money and/or help out.
Some of the Sacramento-area Parrot Heads meet for a “happy hour” the first Thursday of each month to enjoy fellowship with other club members and prospective members. Locations change each month and are announced on our calendar.
We also have other phun activities (phlockings) scheduled such as kayak trips, camping trips, picnics, parties, etc. We encourage all prospective members to attend as many of the community service activities, phlockings, concerts, or happy hours you can and introduce yourself! Also, we are always open to new ideas for activities for us to participate in – both volunteer and social.
Once you get to know us, hopefully you’ll want to join and participate in our Parrot Head games!
